Learning objective
Practise mean, median, mode, class marks, cumulative frequency, grouped mean, ogives, and step-deviation reasoning.
Questions
- Find the mean of 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13.
- Find the median of 12, 7, 9, 15, 20, 4, 11.
- Find the mode of 2, 3, 3, 4, 5, 5, 5, 6.
- Find the class mark of 30-40.
- Prepare cumulative frequency for classes 0-10, 10-20, 20-30 with frequencies 5, 8, 7.
- For grouped data, explain how to identify the modal class.
- If total frequency N = 80, what value is used to locate the median class?
- Find the mean using class marks 5, 15, 25 and frequencies 2, 4, 6.
- What is an ogive?
- Why is step-deviation useful when class marks are large?

Show suggested answers
- Mean = (5 + 7 + 9 + 11 + 13)/5 = 45/5 = 9.
- Arrange data: 4, 7, 9, 11, 12, 15, 20. Median = 11.
- Mode = 5 because it occurs most frequently.
- Class mark of 30-40 = (30 + 40)/2 = 35.
- Cumulative frequencies are 5, 13, and 20.
- The modal class is the class interval with the highest frequency.
- Use N/2 = 80/2 = 40 to locate the median class.
- Mean = (5 x 2 + 15 x 4 + 25 x 6)/(2 + 4 + 6) = 220/12 = 18.33 approximately.
- An ogive is a cumulative frequency graph used to study distribution and estimate median.
- Step-deviation reduces calculation work when class marks are large and have a common interval.
How to use this worksheet
Students can solve the questions independently first, then review errors with a parent or teacher. Teachers can use it as a short class activity, homework sheet, or revision check.
