Extract response method
First identify where the extract appears in the lesson or poem. Then connect it to the larger theme, character motivation, or message.
For short answers, write a direct point and support it with a clue from the extract. For longer answers, add consequence or significance.
What examiners look for
Strong answers show understanding of context, character, theme, and tone. They avoid vague statements such as the writer is telling something important.
When asked about a literary device, name the device and explain how it creates meaning or effect.
